RIP-OFF AND SUBSCRIPTION TRAP
I think we can all agree that the internet makes a lot of things so much easier. But, as we all know, it also brings some risks and a big variety of dangers. Especially regarding private data and money. Besides viruses, phishing, and spam emails, which can be devastating to your privacy, subscription traps are also something to look out for. Dating websites come at a particularly high risk of subscription rip-offs.
In the following article, we will tell you how the operators of such platforms conceal the scam and what consequences are to be expected. We will also explain the role of debt collection companies and lawyers who work together with the rip-off companies. As well, we will also let you know what warning signs to spot to prevent a subscription rip-off before it takes place.
Thousands of people get trapped
First, there is the justified question of how this kind of rip-off started. And of course, there is the fundamental question of why thousands of people in the US, UK, and other parts of the world get trapped in a subscription rip-off every day. One of the biggest reasons this happens is that this might be the first time for someone to use an online service or an online dating platform. There is a first time for everything, and doing something for the first time can be quite risky if you don’t know who to trust or what you’re looking for. It might seem that a high number of members is a sign of a good and secure platform. But, this is not always true.
WHY CANCELLING MY SUBSCRIPTION IS IMPORTANT
Determine Online SCAMS with these Red Flags:
1. Never lift or deactivate any or all the restrictions on your bank card or credit card. Its sole purpose is to prevent scam artist or scam sites from accessing your funds and removing those restrictions will place your card and money in their hands.
2. If the person asks you to remove the restriction of your card so you can access their site or page for the Verification that is a SCAM. If they tell you to buy a prepaid card so you can access the site that is a SCAM.
3. You only need to do the Verification or Validation once you don't have to give out or CC information, especially with a complete stranger.
4. Do not buy prepaid cards to Authenticate Validate or Certify your Online Dating Form because once you finish the Form it is done it is only a one-time procedure.
5. If the person sends you a link and redirects you to an online dating site (hookup.com localsexfriends or anything like that) that is a SCAM. If you get redirected to a cam site (preciouscams, campleasure opcams, or anything like that) to get verified that is a SCAM.
6. Scams will use short links to hide the intended destination URL where scammers want to send their victims. Also, if the URL is overly long and has a strange character in it (eg: m02=93&af023 etc), it also indicates a scam and or a link to malware that attempts to use URL encoding to hide the true destination.
7. Online Forms will come from the Institution or System. It will be sent to your inbox in the form of an Invoice, Payment, Registration, Application, or Contract. If the Verification process is inside of a dating site or cam site link like we mentioned above that is a SCAM.
8. Do not click on these links. Do not fill up any form that says "IT'S FREE" or "1 DAY FREE TRIAL" There is no such thing as "FREE" in the online community do not be fooled or coned most of these links and sites will deduct a large amount of money in your card.
9. Always look for the amount you will spend the $39.95 SCAM is very common. In this case, the person will say you will only pay $39.95 but in actuality, your card will be deducted with a $100 or more when you get the page done. Do not finish the page or close the page. If the verification says $40 or $50 it must be the actual price spending more than you expected is a SCAM.
10. Always look at the bottom of the page where it indicates all the charges that the SCAM site will charge you. You will be surprised that the $39.95 is actually $100 - $200 in a month.
11. Never give out Prepaid card details to anyone because prepaid card scams are very rampant and cannot be detected that is why online con artists use this.
12. Do not send money directly to the person that you meet online. It will not make sense if you send money to Ghana, the Philippines, Nigeria, or other countries if that person is really in the place or location where he/she claims to be.
13. The Verification Process that can be done by Cash wire transfers like the WESTERN UNION and MONEYGRAM are never retrievable at all this is a SCAM. This is why scammers prefer this method. It’s anonymous too, and can also be picked up at any outlet worldwide no matter where the scammer claims to be.
14. Beware of requests for inappropriate photos or financial information that could later be used to extort you.
15. If anyone asks you to download a Remote Desktop Application (DeskRoll, Splashtop, TeamViewer, WebEx) to assist you in doing the Verification process of your online dating form it is most likely in any situation that you are being scammed. This application will allow the Con artist to literally control your device and when this happens they will look for the important files and will use them to take advantage of you.
16. The Name of Authorities are widely used by scam artist they will send you threats to spend money on their links or make you buy a prepaid card for reasons unknown. If you are experiencing this contact the local authorities or contact us to help you with this issue do not be afraid think straight and have a cool head.
Online Scams Don’t Get Scammed!
5. If the person sends you a link and redirects you to an online dating site (hookup.com localsexfriends or anything like that) that is a SCAM. If you get redirected to a cam site (preciouscams, campleasure opcams, or anything like that) to get verified that is a SCAM.
